Chaos & Fragmentation:

Trashy & Classy in Los Angeles

"...to promote free inquiry, freedom of expression and a chance for everyone to be themselves.”  - dff

The author of the above–––so what, we ALL get "that" with our American Apple Pie slice of life, don't we?–––statement at the time wasn't contemplating some great empyrean wheel conjured in hopes of affirming his own seraphic knowledge, as the sole seeker and keeper of an exclusive patented ritual dance with the muse––that without such, his enterprise would have crumbled away long before it had even a chance to exist.

Yet, if you ask me, I'll tell you that's exactly what it is!

At the ripe young age of 30––I, with my former partner and lover David Fairbanks Ford II, co-founded my first 501(c)3––The Main Street Museum–––part freakshow, part local community arts, part small museum, part thrasher stage & mosh pit, AND mostly, of the many things it indeed was, it was ALL heart.

In 2017 it was my great honor and privilege to have orchestrated the MSM's 25th anniversary––a year long celebration with a look towards the future.

Yet, most remarkable of ALL––those initial questions I was presented twenty-years prior––as to what identifiable needs and who was the underserved population––to which our institution was to be of service––through the day-to-day experience of our mission, our vision, our goals and––our values the answers were now, as clear as day.

Today, the task ahead is even greater, and the needs even deeper, yet the possibility for real lasting and sustainable change cannot be neglected or ignored. I hope you'll take notice and find interest in the cause I will be outlining in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,
Mark Ezra Merrill
